Jenn's Review: Evermore

Summary:  The first book in Alyson Noël's extraordinary new Immortals series. Enter an enchanting new world, where true love never dies...

After a horrible accident claims the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever Bloom can see people's auras, hear their thoughts, and know someone's entire life story by touching them. Going out of her way to avoid human contact to suppress her abilities, she has been branded a freak at her new high school — but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.
Damen is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy. He's the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her head -wielding a magic so intense, it's as though he can peer straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she's left with more questions than answers. And she has no idea just who he really is - or what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is that she's falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.

Review:  When people talk about Alyson Noël's Immortal series, they usually either love it or hate it.  Oddly, I'm on the fence.

While it does bear certain similarities to Twilight, misfit girl meets broody new boy at school, that could be true for any number of books.  What I enjoyed about it were it's differences.
I liked Ever so much better than Bella.  She has a reason to be moody so I can forgive her sometimes melodramatic reactions to things.  Her relationship with her sister is wonderful, if not heart breaking.  I loved her friends and was glad they weren't just superficial filler in the story.

I also found the storyline to be more thought provoking.  I'm not sure what I would do in Ever's shoes...  Some of the resolutions seemed a little over-simplified and I wanted a little bit more on occasion.  I found the plot twists semi-predictable but as a whole I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

I will continue this series, for at least another book.

Final Take:  3.75/5.0
