Children's Corner: God Gave Us Christmas

Review: I tend to put my kids' holiday specific books away when it's not that time of year. I just don't like reading the Grinch in July, so best that they are out of the line of sight. So it's always a delight this time of year to pull the books out and read them like they are new again.

Given that kids these days get so caught up in the idea of gift receiving (some gift getting), I always like a book that can put things in perspective. My mom bought our daughter God Gave Us Christmas at least 3 years ago and it's a nice little reminder for those of us who believe in the real reason for Christmas to teach our kids that it's not just presents, parties, cookies and Santa. So, when my daughter asked Santa for an iPad, I thought it might be a good time for a reminder.

It's a sweet story of Little Bear who wants to know when Santa will be coming and delivering her presents. Mama Bear decides that it's time to teach Little Bear about the wonders of God, so she takes her on a little adventure. Mama Bear explains God through various nature wonders and explains to Little Bear the true meaning of Christmas.

This is a sweet book about what Christmas really means and how Santa fits into the celebration. The illustrations are gorgeous and fit perfectly with the story.  If you are looking for a sweet book about the meaning of Christmas to read to your children, then look no further than God Gave Us Christmas.
