Julie's Review: It's a Waverly Life

Summary: The woman dubbed by fans as “the American Bridget Jones” is back in a novel packed with friendship, heartache, and romance. In It’s a Waverly Life, the formerly heartbroken singleton, Waverly Bryson, is now happily enmeshed in a new relationship, a new job, and a new decade. Her career as an advice columnist is taking off, and the future of her fledgling greeting-card line is bright. Of course, where Waverly goes, drama is sure to follow, and this time is no exception. Her broken engagement to former fiancĂ© Aaron Vaughn has left her gun-shy when it comes to love, putting strain on her long-distance relationship with handsome Jake McIntyre. And when her best friends McKenna and Andie both make life-changing announcements, Waverly fears she is being left behind by the ones she loves most. In true Waverly fashion, things must get comically worse before they can get better. But in the end, she discovers that though life (before and after thirty) may be messy and unpredictable, friendship and love make it all worthwhile. ~amazon.com

Review: You know how there's always a few books you "pimp out" to people? Well, Perfect on Paper: The (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson is one of them for me. It's a Waverly Life is a continuation of the first novel. I love Waverly. She cracks me up with her antics. She is almost always putting her foot in her mouth or tripping over her feet as she walks. She's got great friends in McKenna and Andie and her work seems to be going somewhere as well.

It's a Waverly Life picks up soon after McKenna's wedding and after Waverly decided to ask Jake to be her date to the wedding. Only problem, Jake lives in Atlanta and Waverly in San Francisco. You know that things aren't going to go well, because well it's Waverly.

We are introduced to a few new characters that add some more color to the group. For a bit I thought that Ms. Murnane was going to go the standard chick-lit path and throw another guy into the mix for Waverly's affection but she didn't. I applaud her for not taking the road most traveled.

Waverly is the type of girl that you want as your friend and you root for her the whole time. I finished the book in a 24 hour period and enjoyed every minute of it. These are characters that I will want to revisit in the future. I'm also hoping for another continuation in Waverly's story.

If you are looking for a cleverly written set of books and ones that will have you laughing out loud and maybe crying a little bit, I highly recommend Perfect on Paper: The (Mis)Adventures of Waverly Bryson and of course, It's a Waverly Life.

BTW - I love the bright colors on the cover but it also fits with the story.

Final Take: 5/5
